SEAI door grant
€800 towards each new external door, up to two doors. With or without new windows.
windowgrants.ie is not SEAI or a government body and does not award grants.
Figures checked against seai.ie on 28 October 2026. How we check
SEAI pays €800 per external door, for up to two doors: €1,600 at most (seai.ie, checked 28 October 2026).
You can claim it for doors only, or with the windows grant. The same rules apply: a home built and occupied before 2011, a BER showing Good or Very Good heat loss, and an SEAI-registered contractor.
How the door grant works
The door grant is part of the SEAI windows and doors grant that opened on 2 March 2026. It's a fixed €800 per external door, whatever the door costs, up to two doors. Front doors and back doors both count as external doors.
SEAI says you can apply for windows only, doors only, or both (SEAI, 20 Feb 2026). So if your windows are fine but the front door is draughty, you can still claim for the door.
A plain composite door and a more expensive one both get €800.

Which doors count
SEAI describes eligible doors as inefficient or poorly sealed external doors (SEAI, 20 Feb 2026). The new doors must be high-performing and energy efficient. Ask your contractor which door models qualify for the grant, and get it in writing.
Signs an external door is losing heat:
- You can feel a draught around the edges or at the letterbox
- Daylight shows around the frame
- The door is single-glazed or has thin panels
- It's hard to lock because it has dropped or warped
- Condensation or mould forms around the frame in winter
The rules that apply to doors
- Home built and occupied before 2011, with an MPRN (seai.ie).
- The home passes the heat loss test: a BER advisory report showing Good or Very Good heat loss (Heat Loss Indicator 2.3 or lower, or roof and walls already rated Good).
- An SEAI-registered contractor fits the doors.
- A post-works BER is done after the work. It's grant-aided.
- No more than two doors are funded.
Doors and windows in one job
If you're doing windows too, do them together. You need one post-works BER and one contractor visit, and the windows grant can only be claimed once for the property anyway. For a semi-D, that's €3,000 for the windows and up to €1,600 for two doors: €4,600 in all.
What to ask before you order a door
- Does this door model qualify for the SEAI door grant?
- What is its energy rating or U-value, in writing?
- Is fitting, removal of the old door and making good included?
- How long is the wait from order to fitting?
- Is VAT in the price?
Patio doors and French doors
Installers often treat large glazed doors differently from windows, and how SEAI treats a particular door set can depend on the product. Ask your SEAI-registered contractor how a patio or French door would be claimed before you sign.
